The counter series against the Men in Yellow will soon begin. India will play against the Aussies at home for the limited overs series. The series will begin on Sunday in Visakhapatnam. The first game will be one of the two match T20I series.

After the shortest format, India will play their last international assignment before the World Cup. They will lock horns with the Aussies in the five-match ODI series. However the Men in Blue has suffered a major setback. Their sensational all-rounder Hardik Pandya is ruled out for both the series.

In a statement released by BCCI recently, Pandya has been dealing with the same lower-back stiffness problem. This issue has sidelined him in the Asia Cup and Australian tour before. Ravindra Jadeja is named as replacement for the ODI series. But no name has been suggested for the T20I series yet.

Meanwhile Pandya’s injury can be a blessing in disguise for another all-rounder Vijay Shankar. He had an exceptional New Zealand tour and was hence selected in this home series. He can now press his case further by performing brilliantly with his all-round skills.

On the other hand Pandya will now have to undergo fitness program. He will join the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru next week. There he will undergo a training for the strength and conditioning.

An opportunity for Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja might have felt really bad when he was left out initially for the upcoming Aussie series. He had performed well in the ODIs against the same opposition in their own backyard.

Still he was benched in the whole series against the Kiwis. When Pandya was previously ruled out during the Asia Cup, Jadeja performed exceptionally there too. Once again an injury to the same player can prove beneficial for the veteran.

Jaddu can now prove his mettle once again and open a possibility to make it to the World Cup squad. However only time will say if he does get any game time or not. This is because the spin twins Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav might walk into the playing XI on any day.
