The Irani Trophy 2019 has concluded. Faiz Fazal led 2018-19 Ranji champions Vidarbha to victory. They won the game on the basis of first innings lead. As a result they defeated Ajinkya Rahane’s Rest of India side for the second consecutive time.
Now the focus shifts to the limited overs domestic tournament named Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The tournament is named after the Indian player who scored first Test century outside India.
The legend smacked 112 at the Old Trafford, Manchester in 1936. However due to the second World War his career got limited to just 11 Tests. In those matches he scored 612 runs.
Mumbai is one of the favourites in the tournament. Last year they had a sorry exit as they managed to win only game out of four. As a result this time they have a really strong squad. The committee has asked Ajinkya Rahane to lead the contingent in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.
