After the 2005 incident Dravid said that he has joined a list of rare cricketers who have been booed at home. This rare list also includes India’s former captain and legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar.

The incident happened in a Test match in 1984 against England. The management had dropped Kapil Dev as he had played a rash shot in the previous Test at Delhi. As a result of that shot, India lost that game.

Along with Kapil’s dropping, skipper Gavaskar decided to delay the declaration. Debutant Mohammad Azharuddin and Ravi Shastri scored 214 runs for the 5th wicket at less than 2 runs per over.

This angered the crowd and they started shouting “Gavaskar down, Gavaskar out” whenever the captain was seen outside the dressing room. Moreover the crowd threw fruits at him when he eventually declared and took the field for England’s innings.
