The long rivalry was once again ignited on April 3 as Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians faced each other. Both the teams have won the IPL thrice and in this season it was their first encounter.
It turned out to be the home team’s game as CSK didn’t have an ideal day in the field. Nothing went right for them during the run chase as they lost the game by 37 runs. Moreover the MI bowlers didn’t give any edge as they bowled superbly.
More than the defeat, the Men in Yellow has now other things to worry about. They are already two players short and now their ace all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has injured his hamstring. Skipper MS Dhoni acknowledged the injury and said that the team is currently dealing with many problems. Dhoni said:
Bravo has a hamstring injury, we don’t have a few players, we already have some injuries, David Willey isn’t there, he has his own problems, Lungi Ngidi isn’t with us as well, we will have to look at the pitch and then decide on the right combination.

Regarding the match, CSK won the toss and elected to field first. They did extremely well to leave MI at 50/3 in the ninth over. But then Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya repaired the innings.
Both of them added 62 runs for the fourth wicket. After them came the duo of Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard. The game changed in the last two overs. Shardul Thakur conceded 16 runs in the penultimate over.
On the other hand Dwayne Bravo conceded 29 runs in the last over. In that over the Caribbean bowled a no-ball which costed heavily. Pandya and Pollard scored 45 runs in the last two overs and took the game out of CSK’s hand.
During the chase the Yellow Army were never in contention. Only Kedar Jadhav gave some fight and scored a half-century. But there was no one to support him and eventually CSK lost their first game of IPL 2019.
