The banter heard in the stump mic has been one of the highlights in the ongoing series between Australia and India. The Aussie captain Tim Paine has been the centre of every banter.
This was very unexpected as Paine is generally referred to as a ‘good boy’ on and off the field. Paine was involved in a hilarious banter with his counterpart Virat Kohli.
He later asked Murali Vijay if he liked Kohli as a person. In day three of the MCG Test, Paine was in Rishabh Pant’s ears and even called him a ‘babysitter’.
The banter began after the visitors were reduced to 44/5 in their second innings. Australia were seeing a glimmer of hope and Paine decided to get into the head of Pant.
He reminded Pant that veteran MS Dhoni had replaced him in the ODI squad. As a result Paine suggested Pant to extend his holiday and play for Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL). The Aussie skipper indirectly invited Pant to dinner and asked if he could babysit his kids while he takes his wife to movies.
I tell you what, big MS (Dhoni) is back in the One-Day squad, we might get (Pant) down to the Hurricanes, this bloke. We need a batter. Fancy that, surely, extend your little Aussie holiday, Beautiful town Hobart too. Get you a nice apartment on the waterfront. Have you over for dinner you Babysit? I’ll take the wife to the movies one night and you’ll look after the kids?

Pant gives it back in style
It was certain that Pant would definitely give it back when Paine comes to bat on the fourth day. India had set a mammoth target of 399 runs. Australia were reeling at 135/5 when Paine came in to bat.
Pant immediately started getting into Paine’s ears. He termed the Aussie skipper as a special guest on the crease. He also said that Paine is only a temporary captain and knows only to talk.
“We’ve got a special guest today…..have you heard of a temporary captain ever? You don’t need anything to get him out boys. He loves to talk, that’s the only thing he can do, only talking talking,” Pant was heard as saying on the stump mic.
