BCCI Announces First Two Weeks Schedule Of IPL 2019

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally announced the schedule for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). However the schedule which is released only contains the dates of first two weeks.

The schedule contains 17 matches which will be played in the first two weeks. The remainder of the schedule will be announced once Government of India announces the dates of the upcoming election.

IPL 2019 will kick off with the match between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The opening game will be played at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.

The official statement released in the IPL website states that the schedule is subject to change after the election commission finalizes the dates. The official statement on the website read:

IPL releases the schedule of the first two weeks (17 matches) of the VIP IPL 2019 Season. These are still subject to the announcement of the Lok Sabha 2019 election dates. Once these have been released BCCI will address any issues with the first two weeks and will also prepare a schedule for the remainder of the season working with the local authorities around the polling dates.

Delhi and Bangalore will play five games

The scheduled dates are given from 23 March to 5 April. During this period Delhi Capitals (DC) will play three home games at Feroz Shah Kotla. On the other hand RCB will a total of three away games during this period.

Apart from these two, all the other six teams will play two home and two away games. On the other hand DC and RCB will play five games until 5 April.

Like previous seasons, apart from the opening dates, there will be double-headers on every other date. As per earlier reports, the franchises will only host four matches due to security issues. All the eight teams have agreed to this.
