Prior to IPL 2018, Ngidi made a lot of noise. As a result CSK purchased him in the auction. He performed well in the first season by picking 11 wickets in 7 matches at an economy of 6.

But this year Ngidi has suffered a Grade II muscle strain injury. This has forced him to remain sidelined for up to four weeks. After that he will undergo rehabilitation ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

This means that he will miss the entire IPL season which is a big blow for CSK. This is because he was the only genuine overseas pacer in the squad as the franchise released Mark Wood ahead of the auction.

Shane Watson and Dwayne Bravo’s prowess have diminished. The entire bowling department will now be headed by all-rounder David Willey. He will be assisted by an Indian cluster of right-arm medium pacers who are all inexperienced.
