The withdrawal of a lead pacer before the start of the tournament has become KKR’s destiny. Last year it was Mitchell Starc and this year it is Shivam Mavi. The U19 pacer is known for consistently bowling over 140kph.

Last year Mavi was bought in the auction for Rs 3 crores. However he didn’t have a good season as he could pick only 5 wickets from 9 games and gave runs at above 9 an over. However his raw pace was noticed by everyone.

This year Mavi will be out for four to six months due to a stress fracture in his back. Karnataka leg-spinner KC Cariappa has been announced as Mavi’s replacement. Cariappa began his IPL journey with KKR but later moved to Kings XI Punjab. He was released this year prior to the auction.
