New Zealand might see some brilliant captains in the future, but none will match Brendon McCullum. The Kiwi skipper was a fearless batsman and had excellent leadership skills. Moreover in 2015 he became the first Kiwi captain to lead his team to World Cup final.

When McCullum took the reins of the team, it was in a mediocre state. But he changed it into a competitive unit and under him some great players flourished. Guptill became the first double centurion for the Kiwis. Trent Boult took 22 wickets and became joint highest wicket-taker along with Mitchell Starc.

McCullum himself became New Zealand’s second highest top scorer with 328 runs from 9 matches. His highest score of 77 came against England. In that same game he scored the fastest 50 in World Cup (51 runs off 18 balls). McCullum retired from playing international cricket on 24 February 2016.
