3 Reasons Why KL Rahul Shouldn’t Play World Cup

The Men in Blue have recently won the series against Australia. They have also started the limited overs tour against New Zealand with win in first two matches.

Seeing the team combination and performance, one can say that the team is set for the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. The competition is however for the last four spots, who will act as reserve players.

KL Rahul has been the absentee in the ongoing series against the Kiwis. However his exclusion can be more or less justified. Since the start of 2018, KL Rahul has been facing a lot of failures in his career.

His performances have deteriorated. As an opener he failed to give the team good starts, for which many times the team suffered. Looking ahead for the upcoming mega event, it won’t be bad to exclude the 26-year-old batsman from the 15-man squad.

Here are 3 reasons why India shouldn’t take KL Rahul in 2019 World Cup:

1. Prithvi Shaw / Shubman Gill as reserve opener

One one side while KL Rahul was failing, Prithvi Shaw was definitely the find of 2018. Shaw scored a Test century on debut against the Windies. He even went on to win the Man of the Series award.

Shaw has been delivering on a constant basis and with a quick rate. In Australia, the ball wasn’t much moving much. Still Rahul failed to deliver. His performances in England were dismal to say the least.

It won’t be a good idea to bench either Shikhar Dhawan or Rohit Sharma. These two are big-game players and can deliver on big stages on a consistent basis. Even Rahul failed to impress with his performances in the Asia Cup.
