Joseph Charles Buttler of Somerset has become England’s limited overs superstar. He is currently regarded as the best finisher in the world. With an average of 54 and strike rate of 150, Buttler single-handedly took Rajasthan Royals to IPL Playoffs last year.
Although Buttler is an opener in the T20I format, his finishing abilities are not obscured in ODI format. On one hand he has a nice and humble character. On the other hand Buttler is a demolisher of the cricket ball.
After England’s sorry exit in World Cup 2015, Trevor Bayliss’ scheme was ‘See ball, hit the ball’. Buttler is largely the product of that scheme.
He has the ability to hammer both spinners and pacers with equal ease. His vigour and vitality, the shorter boundaries, added by home advantage can make Buttler ruthless. As a result he is the top candidate to break Gibbs’ record in the World Cup later this year.
