The Indian Premier League has witnessed many controversies since its journey began. Right from ‘slapping gate’ to ‘match-fixing’ to ‘teams getting banned’, the tournament has seen it all. It has also witnessed players getting arrested during IPL.

These players had to face police custody for various reasons. While some were arrested during IPL due to match-fixing while some for molestation of betting. The news of these arrests had shaken the entire country and maligned the cash-rich league.

1. S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila

In May 2013, the whole nation was rocked by match-fixing scenario. 2011 World Cup winning squad member S Sreesanth was arrested during IPL. Along with Sreesanth his two Rajasthan Royals teammates, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, were kept in police custody for five days.

When Delhi police started investigating about the IPL spot-fixing, these three cricketers were held guilty. The police arrested Sree from his friend’s house. The other two were arrested from a Delhi hotel. INR 40,000 crore was involved in the spot-fixing scam.

Ankeet and Ajit were to be given INR 60 lakhs per over for spot-fixing. It was revealed that Sreesanth did some stretching to signal the bookies in the over he’d concede runs. Chandila gave runs but didn’t signal for which he was asked to return the money. However all the charges against these players were dropped in 2015.
