Two giant nations of cricket, India and Australia, will lock horns in 3-match ODI series in January 2020. It will be a home series for India and is considered the most significant shift in Aussie home season.

The schedule was decided according to the ICC Future Tour Program (FTP). According to that Australia needed to end their India tour by late January 2020. But the Aussie board requested for postponing the series to BCCI.

However BCCI refused the proposal and insisted that the series would begin a few days early. With the series against India is confirmed, the Men in Yellow are forced to drop their home ODI series against New Zealand.

The series against the Kiwis were to begin after the New Year’s Test in Sydney. But it seems that New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has agreed to the terms and the series will be held later in the year. “We’re quite relaxed about it and confident a contingency can be arranged,” the NZC spokesman told stuff-co.nz.

Will some regular and main players miss BBL?

With the schedule being confirmed, CA chief executive Kevin Roberts is worried now. This is because the international home season, the Big Bash League (BBL) is played every year in December and January.

This means that with main Aussie players travelling to India to attend the series, they will miss a chunk of BBL that will precede the tour.

“We have been working hard to rejig the schedule to fit a change in dates for the two ODI series, at home with New Zealand and away with India, on the back end of the Sydney test but there are necessary trade-offs. As a sport, we are fortunate that we have three formats, a compelling international and domestic offering for both men and women. Complexities are bound to and often arise,” the CA spokesperson said on the matter.
