Rohit was born in Bansod, Nagpur on the 30th of April in 1987. His father, Gurunath Sharma worked as a caretaker in a transportation firm, and his mother, Purnima Sharma was a housewife. Rohit also has an elder brother named Vishal.

Rohit started as an off-spinner bowler who used to bat at 8 or 9th position. His coach saw a spark in him and insisted to join the Swami Vivekanand International School, where Lad was the coach.
