It was Australian spin legend Shane Warne who first gave the idea of playing Rishabh Pant as opener. He said that Pant should open the Indian innings with Rohit Sharma in the World Cup.

The idea became more endorsed when Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar supported Warne’s statement. Chief selector MSK Prasad also revealed that playing Pant as the opener is an option.
