ASHWIN: ONE OF THE MOST RESOLUTE SPELL I HAVE BOWLED.

It was the time when Ashwin dismissed Kane Willianson in the second innings of the Kanpur test, he became the 2nd fastest bowler to earn 200 wickets and that too in 37 matches.

And this is also the prime reason that at this very moment Ashwin is the utmost key bowler for the team and the captain Kohli is also very much relaxed regarding having a bowler Ashwin in the longer format of the game where each and every time their potential are being tested.

Ashwin came to bowl in the 9th over of the game during the chase against New Zealand and bowled 22 overs taking the wickets of Martin Guptil and Ross Taylor in the process.

“It was a very long and tiring spell and it was tough out there in the middle,” Ashwin told bcci.tv after the match. “I had to buckle in because we knew that the fast bowlers needed to be given enough rest. In the bargain, I picked up a few important wickets. I believe it’s one of the more decisive bowling spells I have bowled in the recent past,” the ace off-spinner added.

After his spell of 22 overs, Ashwin said: “I had to do it and it was a decisive spell. Maybe in the long run one may not find it so because of how things happened so quickly after tea. Once we broke through the back of the New Zealand line-up and got them to four or five down, it was just a matter of time.”

The tracks of the Edens are very good for the bowlers both for spinners and seamers as well, Ashwin confronted this and said it was a very good track to play upon.

“It was just the odd ball jumping and spinning and keeping a touch low. I felt the wicket behaved much better today than how it behaved yesterday. There was a lot more balls that were not easy for our batsmen to counter and for some reason the wicket binded well because of the grass today as well. The game was closer than what the scoreboard suggests. At one stage after lunch they were 55/0 and all they needed was a hundred run partnership somewhere. We did well to come one up at the end of it,” he said.
