In the Indian cricket history, Virender Sehwag is one of the fearsome openers, he loves to take charge of the bowlers from the first ball itself and he was the one who never thought about his individual score always played for the team and these exceptional qualities of him makes him a successful opener.
However, Ajay Ratra, the former Indian cricket team member said it was the Master Blaster who offered the “Viru” to open along with Sourav Ganguly, though the Master Blaster and Sourav Ganguly were doing a great job as an opener and he decided to bat at No.4 position and gave the opportunity to Sehwag.
Because of the decision of the Master Blaster, Shewag able to play his natural game or else Shewag would have been forced to bat at No.4 spot, and maybe in that position, he would not have bought out his natural game.
In an interview the former Indian Wicket Keeper Ajay Ratra voiced:
“Sachin was doing so well as an opener at that time but Sehwag had to open. So Sachin offered to bat at No.4. Sehwag then opened with Dada (Sourav Ganguly) for that left and right combination. If Sachin hadn’t agreed then Viru probably would have had to bat lower. He wouldn’t have got the chance to open in ODIs and the story could have been a lot different,”
In his career, Virender Sehwag has achieved many accolades with the Indian national team and he is the first player to score a triple century in the longer format of the game, Shewag has more than 17000 international runs to his name.
