Aussie all-rounder Marcus Stoinis did nothing wrong against India in Nagpur except on thing. It was his dismissal in the final over of the game. The pitch was extremely difficult for the visitors to make stroke play.

But Stoinis showed his class with his calm and calculated knock. Chasing a target of 251, the Men in Yellow started off on a good note. Openers Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch added 83 runs for the first wicket.

But they lost quick wickets in the middle and were reeling at 133 for 4. At that point of time Australia looked totally out of the game. This is because they had lost players like Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell and Khawaja.

However Stoinis waged a lone war despite wickets falling from the other hand. He kept the scoreboard ticking and in the process scored his half-century. He took the game to the deep and gave Australia hope as they needed 11 off the last over.

But a slower delivery from Vijay Shankar deceived Stoinis and the Aussies lost the game by 8 runs. Stoinis had played 26 ODIs so far and has scored 6 fifties and one century. But in all those occasions, the Aussies have lost every game.

As a result another close loss in his career has left an ’empty feeling’ inside Stoinis. In an interview to cricket.com.au on Wednesday, Stoinis said,  “Just a bit of an empty feeling coming to the end of the game.”

Stoinis praises Dhoni and Kohli

“We did well, fought hard, got close but we didn’t get the result we wanted. Hindsight is a beautiful thing … you think if this partnership goes longer or you take a risk earlier (what would have happened), all that sort of stuff. You never know what’s going to happen.”

“We haven’t had a debrief yet … when emotions are going it’s probably best to let that settle then have a more relaxed conversation the next day,” Stoinis added.

The all-rounder also praised the Indian duo of Dhoni and Kohli. After scoring four consecutive fifties against the Aussies, Dhoni had a rare failure in Nagpur. However on the other hand skipper Virat Kohli scored a sublime century.

“Virat and MS play very different roles, but they make sure they get the job done for the team,” Stoinis said. He also added, “Two of the best players in the world … so there’s things to learn from them and it’s probably fortunate we’re playing them so frequently leading up to a World Cup.”
