Sachin Tendulkar Gives Verdict against Fitness Test

Presently the yo-yo fitness test has create quite an amount of buzz in the news for some reason or the other.

Cricket news: There are various other ways than yo-yo test, says Tendulkar

Many cricketer in the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu have been dropped from the squad because of their failure to clear the prescribed fitness test.

Even pacer Mohamed Shami was not included in the historic one-off test against England as he could not qualify, and was later included in the England squad after clearing the test.

Legendary veteran cricketer Sachin Tendulkar voiced his opinion against the fitness test and said that yo-yo test should not be the only criteria for solution.

He said that he is always in favour of the fitness of a player but he is against the way it is determined whether a player is fit or not.

Tendulkar feels that fielding has become an important aspect in modern day cricket. While comparing the yo-yo test and the beep test, which was used earlier, Tendulkar feels all the emphasis should not be placed on a single test.

“I feel certain fielding standards are critical. Now I haven’t done the Yo-Yo Test. We had the beep test, which is more or less similar. But that shouldn’t be the only criterion. It should be a mixture of fitness and also look at the ability of a player. I think the Yo-Yo test is important but also looking at the ability of the player and how to fit or unfit the player is.” He was quoted as saying by HT.

In the recently concluded limited overs series, spinners like Kuldeep Yadav and Adil Rashid got much assistance from the pitch.

Tendulkar believes that if the conditions remain same, then the spinners will dominate. This means there will be much competition in the batting lineups. However Sachin also said that he is not a fan of frequent changes in the squad.

“I would say one has to be patient and balanced but that doesn’t mean you are not supposed to make any changes. One should make changes if the situation demands those changes but otherwise I feel it’s always nice to have that stability and letting the players know that there aren’t going to be too many unnecessary changes,” he told according to HT.
