Positives and Negatives of India from 1st ODI against the Windies

Negatives

1. The pacers failed in this match

The fast bowlers were hammered by the Windies batsmen in the likes of Powell, Hetmyer and Holder on such a good pitch. Hetmyer’s innings was so devastating (106 off 78 balls, 6 fours, 6 sixes) that had he not got wicket, he could have taken his team’s score close to 400.

The pacers could not do anything with the variation except for banging the ball short. Mohammed Shami was the most expensive of the lot as he conceded 81 off his 10 overs.

Umesh Yadav gave away 64 runs without picking up a wicket, while Khaleel Ahmed took just one wicket. Hence the failure of the fast bowlers mean that India have not solved the problem of a support bowler for Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah.
