Former Indian team captain Ganguly reckons that the rivalry between Kohli and Kumble could have settled even in a more strategic way and should not have any public domain effect on the game
The controversy between the two which at last costed at the rate of Kumble resigning from the post of head coach had a rift which could have settled.
“The matter between Kumble and Kohli should have been handled a lot better, by whoever was in charge. It was not handled properly,” the former India captain opined.
Ganguly is a part of the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), also including Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, as they sit to oversee the appointment of Kumble’s successor, ahead of India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, in late July.
Ravi Shastri the director of team India, who had applied earlier for the post and was duly rejected by Ganguly for the position of head coach for the national squad, and when asked on this act he replied,
“Everybody has got the right to apply. We will find out. I can also apply provided I’m not an administrator,” he quipped when asked about the application of Shastri.
It was also rumoured that Ganguly had a hand in his non-selection and Shastri had openly blamed the former India captain, alleging that Ganguly had influenced Sachin Tendulkar and Laxman to consider Kumble ahead of himself.
Besides his responsibility as a CAC member, Ganguly has also been named in the seven-member ‘special committee’ of the BCCI led by Rajiv Shukla to identify “exceptional and extremely limited areas of difficulty” in the implementation of the Lodha committee reforms. The former opener refused to be drawn into answering his role, saying that he needed time to go through with the proposals.
