How can we all forget the Heroics of Dinesh Karthik at the Nidahas Trophy Final . The last ball 6 by Karthik won India the Trophy from clutches of Bangladesh. Karthik tried the same in the last T20 against New Zealand.

India lost the game just by 6 runs chasing 213 done by New Zealand. In the final game of the series , India needed 16 runs in the last over . At that time Dinesh Karthik and Krunal Pandya were at the crease. Every Indian Fan was exprecting a Blasting finish .

India lost the match, but it didn,t make the headlines . The Headline was Karthik had denied a single to Krunal Pandya on the third delivery of the last over. Karthik was backing himself as he backed himself in Nidahas Trophy. As a result , it did not happen and India lost by 4 runs.

From this result, only 1 question arises : Should Dinesh Karthik have taken that 1 run ?

Karthik’s Comments on this issue to The Indian Express :

I think Krunal and I batted really well from that situation (145/6). We were able to bring the match down to a place where the bowlers were under pressure. We backed ourselves to do the job. And at that stage (after refusing the single), I genuinely believed that I could hit a six

As a middle-order batsman, a lot of times you have to trust your ability to play those big shots under pressure. It is also important to trust your partner at that time. I did not come off on that occasion but those things happen in the game of cricket.

Karthik Believed In Himself

The patnership between Karthik and Krunal was 63-run off 28 balls. But it was all invain. India lost the game by 4 runs and the series by 1-2 to New Zealand.

He commented :

Some days you are able to hit a boundary, some days the bowler does a good job. And there, you have to give credit to Tim Southee for the way he executed those yorkers under pressure. One mistake there and I am sure we would have taken him down

Karthik genuinely believed only reason to deny the single to the elder of the Pandya brothers was that he believed in himself .

He commented :
