India Cricket News: “If I Am The Captain…”- Ravindra Jadeja

India Cricket News : Indian spinners dominated the Day 1 of the Second Test against Sri Lanka, as Jadeja and Ashwin picked up seven wickets combined. The rumours are wide spread that India is looking to play with just only spinner in the upcoming series against South Africa, but Ravindra Jadeja isn’t that much worried about it, rather he wants to keep his focus on the game.

In the post day press conference, Jadeja spoke to the press regarding the upcoming tour to South Africa and soon he was put on the firing zone by the reporters when the reports asked him regarding his opinion between who he would have chosen between him and Ashwin in the playing XI if he captained the Indian side.

“Yeh bhi koi puchne ki baat hain (Is this a question that you even need to ask?), his reply had everyone laughing. ” If I am the captain, I will not even give the ball to anyone (laughs). I will keep bowling from one end,” Jadeja said.

Ashwin and Jadeja performed amazingly in pair, but it would be a difficult asks for the captain to play two spinners in the playing XI in South Africa, where the pitches will favour the pacers instead.

“I can only control the controllable. When I get an opportunity, I will try to do well. What is not in my control, there is no point thinking about it. When I get a chance to play in South Africa, I will try to do well. When I got a chance the last time, I played the second Test after Ashwin played the first. That’s why I said that teams combination will depend on the composition of the opposition,” the all-rounder added.

The canny left-arm spinner also said it’s more important for the side to pick up all 20 wickets to win the game, regardless who is in the playing XI. He also praised the Indian Pacers, especially Ishant Sharma who pick up 3 crucial wickets in his return

“There was a lot of help from the wicket there (Kolkata) so you guys must have felt that every ball will yield a wicket but that was not the case here because this wicket had grass but not the bounce or swing or the overcast conditions of Kolkata. That’s why we did not get much help but the two (Ishant and Yadav) bowled well in the first session.”

Talking about the different tactics Ashwin had applied to get those four wickets, he said it’s imperative to keep thinking uniquely to outsmart the batters. He also mentioned he was very happy with the way he bowled on a track which assisted the seamers pretty well,” He said.

“If there is nothing in the wicket for spinners, then its good to try something different. Over the wicket or round the wicket, just try and create chances. That’s what he was doing. I was very happy as to how I bowled today. There was no help from the wicket and I was looking to bowl in right areas,” He concluded.
