After the yo-yo test saga which Ambati Rayudu failed to clear previously, he came into the mix of the national side and performed well in the recently concluded Asia Cup.
Cricket news: Rayudu looked in sublime touch with the bat in the recently concluded Asia Cup
In the absence of the regular skipper Virat Kohli, he was given to bat at the most coveted position of number three and he grabbed the chance with both his hands.
He looked extremely in good form as he scored 175 runs from six matches at an average of more than 43. Sometimes he did not get enough time on the crease because of the terrific performance of the openers. However when he was asked to open against Afghanistan, he showed his class and scored a half-century.
After the completion of the Asia Cup, many players opted to play for their state teams in the domestic circuit and many would have expected Rayudu to do the same to stay in the same vein before the Windies ODI series.
However Rayudu has decided to take a rest and not perform for his home team Hyderabad in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and his decision has baffled everyone.

Moreover he was appointed the captain of all the formats by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) and the shocking news is that he did not inform the association about not playing in the domestic circuit after returning home from the Asia Cup.
“Rayudu has not got in touch with us about the reasons about his absence. Maybe he has informed the selectors or the Committee of Administrators. At the start of the season we had appointed him captain for all forms but strangely he had decided to stay away from the group stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy,” the HCA secretary Sheh Narayan was quoted as saying by Ahmedabad Mirror.
However Noel David, the chief selector of Hyderabad, has said that Rayudu had told the association that he wanted to take rest and the selectors have given him full consent.
