The rumour has finally come true as the home matches of Chennai Super Kings, for the rest of the eleventh edition of IPL, has been shifted from Chennai to Pune.

The protests concerning Cauvery water dispute is getting intense with every passing day. This has forced the BCCI to take decision regarding the shifting of home ground of Chennai Super Kings from Chennai to Pune.

“The matches had to be shifted out of Chennai as police had said that they were unable to provide security in the prevailing situation. CSK is not averse to shifting base to Pune,” IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla told PTI.

The match between CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders on April 10 witnessed massive protests before the match. Besides that during the match a shoe was flung at CSK’s Ravindra Jadeja and Faf du Plessis.

Apart from Pune, BCCI had selected Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram and Rajkot as alternative venues. But eventually Pune was selected because of CSK’s captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s familiarity with the conditions as he had played a couple of seasons for Rising Pune Supergiants.

Committee of Administrator (CoA) chief Vinod Rai told PTI, “There are only a few direct flights available from Vizag. If the team has to travel to Indore, then they had to reach Indore via Delhi. Pune has better connectivity, so it was decided that CSK shift base to Pune.”

“We were in touch with BCCI as well franchise officials. We are prepared for the challenge as the match is to be hosted in a just few days,” an anonymous official of Maharashtra Cricket official said.

CSK will play their next home game against Rajasthan Royals on April 20.
