Sikandar Raja started off with both bat and ball and clicked three wickets for his side to attain a historic win in the last ODI of the 5th and final ODI of the series
With the 3-2 win in Hambantota and with this win Zimbabwe who is placed in the 11th spot in the ODI Ranking won an overseas series after 8 long years.
It was definitely a long wait for the side to taste the victory which might they have forgotten in their recent times, but with the star performances by some of their team mates this seemed very easy for the side and at last they registered a comfortable win against the much experienced side of the cricketing history.
Off-spinner Raza claimed three wickets to restrict the hosts to 8-203 after Zimbabwe elected to field first. He then anchored a tense chase with an unbeaten 27 as the visitors won with 71 balls to spare.
The visitors slipped in making just 38 runs in the middle with the cost of 6 wickets and after than when the win was looking a difficult one for the side the Skipper and Raza contributed a 29 run partnership to lead the side to a historic win
“(I’m) happy that Sikandar came to the party. It turned around very quickly but happy we pulled it off in the end,” an elated Cremer said following their win.
“This win is very special, fans must be jumping around back home. We knew we’re playing good enough cricket to put them under pressure.”
“Raza is a definite weapon with the new ball. I was hoping for a breakthrough or two and he gave us that in the Power Play,” Cremer said.
