Despite having a long career behind the mic, Indian commentators like Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar didn’t bring anything special to the table. Gavaskar’s commentary seemed desperate at times.
On the other hand Shastri stated the same thing over and over again. In this situation Rahul Dravid came in like a fresh air. Like others, Dravid isn’t loud or brash. Along with that he has a vast knowledge of domestic cricket which makes him one of the best cricket commentators.
Ian Chappell
Chappell is one of the Fab Four of Channel 9 who still commentates on a permanent basis. Among the other three, Richie Benaud and Bill Lawry have become inconsistent due to age. On the other hand Tony Greig’s death was a colossal loss to cricket.
However Chappell is a no-holds barred commentator. He is strict by his words and never shy to keep his words forward. Last year he couldn’t agree to BCCI line of conduct behind the mic. As a result Chappell refused to commentate on the India vs Australia ODI series.
