India had a disastrous 2007 World Cup campaign, where they were knocked out from the group stage. Thus their sole aim was to win the 2011 World Cup. Moreover the 2011 edition was to be played at home.

Previously no team had won a World Cup at home. So India had a chance to create history. They had a competitive start in the group stage. Then they defeated Australia and Pakistan in a tense quarter and semi-final respectively.

The Men in Blue now had to face co-hosts Sri Lanka in the final. With the help of Mahela Jayawardene’s century, Sri Lanka put up a competitive total of 274. India had a nervous start as they were down at 31/2.

But Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni played some crucial knocks. This helped India lift the World Cup after 28 years. It was Sachin Tendulkar’s sixth and final World Cup too. Yuvraj hugged Sachin and cried on the field. Even Harbhajan couldn’t control and he also cried on the field.

Current Indian skipper Virat Kohli is always known for being a bold and aggressive side. But his emotional side came to the forefront during the 2012 World T20 in Sri Lanka.

After becoming the champions in the inaugural 2007 edition, India failed big time in the 2009 and 2010 editions. They started the 2012 edition by winning both the group games.

But they lost to Australia heavily in the Super Eight encounter. However they bounced back against Pakistan. In the next game against South Africa, they had to win by 31 runs to qualify for the semi-final. But India managed to win that game by just one run.

Kohli had a wonderful tournament with the bat. He scored 185 runs at an average of 46.25, which included two half-centuries. But seeing his efforts go to vain, Kohli cried on the field. This happened when he was fielding against South Africa and India exited the tournament.
