The word ‘chokers’ is connected to such people who come a long way, but ultimately fail in the most important situation. This is the same scenario with the South African cricket team.

Over the years they manage to reach the knock-outs and then fail to go over. But in 2015 WC, they managed to win their first knock-out game. They defeated Sri Lanka in the quarter-final and was ready for the Kiwi challenge in the semis.

In a rain-truncated game of 43-overs-a-side, the Proteas managed to score 281. The DLS score for the Kiwis was 298. Both the teams had never reached the final and the stakes were high. The Kiwis had a good start, but soon they found themselves at 149/4.

However Corey Anderson and Grant Elliot steadied the ship and the pressure was back on the Proteas. They choked once again as there were dropped catches, missed runouts and misfields. Elliot took those chances and took New Zealand home with one ball to spare.

The whole South African team broke down. Players like AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis and Morne Morkel cried on the field. It was indeed heart-breaking for them as prior to that semis, the Proteas had played so well.
