Gautam Gambhir steps down as Delhi’s skipper and didn’t accept any salary
Gauti had a successful stint with Kolkata Knight Riders, leading them to two IPL titles. So when he returned to Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals), everyone thought that the team’s fortunes would change.
In 2018, Gauti returned for INR 2.80 crore and was made the skipper. However he faced a torrid time as Delhi won only one game out of the first six. Even Gambhir was having a poor form with the bat. He started with 55 against KXIP and then managed only 30 from next four innings.
This is when Gauti made a selfless act and decided to step down from the skipper’s role. In his place Shreyas Iyer was made the skipper. After giving up captaincy, Gauti also didn’t make the playing XI. Later it was heard that Gauti won’t take any salary and will play for free.
