4. Big match experience which India lacks at the moment
Since 2014 World T20 final, India haven’t got the confidence to beat bigger oppositions. In knockouts, they only defeated Bangladesh in 2015 and 2017, South Africa in 2014. For a big team like India, it isn’t a good record.
In all these games, the top order of the Men in Blue have failed horribly. This could be rectified by the presence of MSD. Although this might seem a bit unorthodox, but if all others experiments fail, then Dhoni can be considered as an option.
5. Additional bowler or all-rounder in place of Pant
If India gets an opener who is also a wicket-keeper, then they can add an extra all-rounder in the middle-order. This can add an extra bowling option and also a hard-hitter. This opener problem can be solved by the inclusion of MSD.
Currently Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul are in the middle order. One of them will lose his place to skipper Virat Kohli. One among Krunal Pandya and Shivam Dube will go out in place of Hardik Pandya.
But if Dhoni bats at the top, then India can go with Hardik, Krunal and Shivam as well. Even the team will become very much balanced like England. They will have 7 bowling options and 8 batting options. This will help the team to set fire on the stage.
