5 Players You Didn’t Know Played Under MS Dhoni

3. Ramesh Powar, IND 2007

The off-spinner had a short stay during the years 2004-2007. He made his debut in Rawalpindi against Pakistan. In a couple of matches, he couldn’t pick wickets but was economical. Nonetheless he was dropped from the team.

After an impressive domestic season, he returned against England and took 3 wickets. He played 31 ODIs and took 34 wickets. After Kumble retired in the 2007 home Test series against Australia, Dhoni was given the captaincy.

Dhoni’s first full assignment was the 7-match ODI series against the Aussies. Powar was a regular member of the team because of his economical bowling. He gave 50 runs in 6 overs at Chennai, but rain intervened and the match was tied. In the next game he finished with 0/30 in 5 overs and was later dropped. Hence he played only 2 games under MSD.
