5 ODI Records That Even Kohli Might Fail To Break

2. Breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s 18,426 ODI runs record

The great Master Blaster was one of such cricketers who remained consistent throughout their career. Although he started his career on a slow note between 1989 and 1993, Sachin gradually picked up pace and between 1994 and 1996 was his glorious years.

Out of his 49 ODI centuries, 24 came in that brief period. Sachin maintained his consistency between 2000 and 2006. Given his legendary status he managed to extend his career until 2012. The last six years of his career saw a significant slowdown.

Many legendary players’s career also took a dip in the twilight of the career. This is mainly because of the age and fitness factor. For Kohli it won’t be anything different.

The Indian skipper now scores approx 1,000 runs in a calendar year. So after five years his runs tally will reach near about 15,000. If injuries are considered, then they might come down to 14,000.

He would still require to score more than 3,500 runs after he crosses the age of 35. Even the great Tendulkar managed to score 3,889 in his last six years. So it would be virtually impossible for Kohli to break Sachin’s record.
