Many might think that when people coming from low background reach heights of success, they lose their mind. However former English cricketer Peter Roebuck belonged to a highly-educated family.

His parents were mathematics teacher and an economics teacher. Roebuck himself studied law at the University of Cambridge, which is regarded as one of the prestigious universities in the world. Apart from that Roebuck was also a philanthropist.

The player from Oxford, who had played 600 domestic games, started a Trust named Learning for a Better World. This organization ensured that budding cricketers from all over the world could complete their education there.

Roebuck’s case of sexual offending is a bit strange one. During that time he went to South Africa to do a report for ABC and The Sydney Morning Herald. There was a Test match going on at that moment between South Africa and Australia.

The South African police entered Roebuck’s hotel to ask about the sexual assault of a 26-year-old Zimbabwean man. Roebuck asked the police to leave him alone so that he could change his clothes. He then jumped from the sixth floor and committed suicide. This incident surprised many as Roebuck had a good reputation.
