3. Kapil Dev’s breakdown on national television
India lifted the World Cup for the first time in 1983 under the leadership of Kapil Dev. However later Kapil was accused of spot-fixing and media started questioning his honesty. At this moment, Kapil appeared in a talk show hosted by Karan Thappar.
There when the question of spot-fixing came up, Kapil broke down in front of the camera. He said that he would accept suicide rather than accepting bribes to betray his country. Many former Indian players also accused Kapil of bribing them in sting operations. But there were no evidences and Kapil was later cleared of all charges.
4. Sachin solving rift between Sehwag and Wright
Another dark secret of Indian cricket is the tussle between Virender Sehwag and coach John Wright. The carefree batting style of Sehwag annoyed the head coach. As a result Wright created the hullaballoo in the dressing room.
But later Wright realized the mistake and even skipper Sourav Ganguly asked him to apologize to Sehwag. Things were escalating and this is when Sachin Tendulkar came in. He told to Wright and got to know that he didn’t do it on purpose.
Wright just wanted Sehwag to realize his mistakes. Sachin told Wright not to apologize as it would degrade the value of his position. He even went to Sehwag and said to let go. He said Sehwag to to consider as an incident where his father scolded his child for his goof-ups.
