SONY STILL ON STANDBY MODE FOR THE OFFICIAL MEDIA RIGHTS OF INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE

Sony waiting for the final order of BCCI for the official rights of IPL

Sony Pictures Network India (SPNI) are the official broadcasters of Indian Premier League (IPL) and told Times of India (TOI) that they are still waiting for the “final written order” of Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) to acquire the media rights for the next season of IPL.

“We await a final offer from the BCCI,” wrote  SPNI when enquired about the matter but before it BCCI sources say that they had already made the final verdict, called for an open tender to sanction the financial matter so that every possible explaination could be glassy clear.

BCCI say that SPNI missed the two month deadline post of the IPL 2016 final. It is also said SPNI did not want to take risks of high stakes as the verdict of the Supreme Court on Lodha panel recommendations came on July 18, 2016. SPNI were reluctant to take any step as they too were concerned about their future.

It is also seen that the ongoing contract between BCCI and SPNI clearly specifies about a time when SPNI will be failing to terminate a deal within 60 days of IPL final than BCCI have the right to make a written order which has to be accepted or rejected by SPNI within the next 10 days.

The only thing is left about BCCI not giving the “final written order” and SPNI do not have the first right to refuse over the offer and will be waiting for the counter offer made by BCCI.

“Only SPNI and the BCCI can confirm if the two parties are keeping the faith.” said an official.
