MS Dhoni’s Exclusion from T20I Squad Happened in Presence of Kohli and Rohit

Although MS Dhoni has been an integral part of the Indian dressing room for over a decade, yet his abilities and his brute force have waned and is not anything like he used to be a couple of years ago.

Cricket news: Dhoni is not selected for the T20I series against Windies and Australia

Although he has helped a lot with his wicketkeeping abilities and with his deep insights, he has however failed miserably with the bat and it is garnered a lot of criticisms lately.

Recently when the T20I squads for the series against the Windies and Australia were announced, MS Dhoni’s name was excluded from the list.

A BCCI official has recently come forward with the explanation of Dhoni’s exclusion and has also revealed that it was done in presence of Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his limited-overs format deputy Rohit Sharma.

“It’s a given that Dhoni won’t be around when next ICC World T20 happens in Australia in 2020. So, there wasn’t any point continuing with him if he will not play World T20,” the official was quoted as saying in Times Now.

“Obviously, the selectors and team management had a good deliberation on this issue. Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were present at the selection committee meeting. You think selectors could have gone ahead without their approval?” the official added.

While Kohli has been rested for the T20I series against the Windies, he will be back during the Australia series which will begin from 21 November at The Gabba in Brisbane.

Meanwhile Rohit will lead the team against the Windies, as he did in Kohli’s absence during the Asia Cup. The three-match T20I series against Jason Holder’s men will be played from 4 November in Kolkata, Lucknow and Chennai.
