Ben Stokes Picks Up an Injury

The all-rounder from England, Ben Stokes, has picked up an injury on May 30 while fielding during a practise session in the training ground.

Cricket news: Stokes will miss the ODI action against Scotland and Australia

Due to the injury, which is a tear in the left hamstring, England will miss the services of their best all-rounder in the one-off ODI against Scotland.

According to an ECB statement, Stokes will probably miss the “first part” of the five-match series to be played against Australia.

For the Scotland game which is to be played on June 10 in Edinburgh, Middlesex batsman Dawid Malan has been added to the squad.

For the Australia series which gets underway at the Oval on June 13, the Kent wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings has been brought into the squad.

Stokes’ injury was caused on the training ground while doing a fielding practise on May 30 ahead of the ongoing second Test against Pakistan at Headingley, and hence could not bowl in the match later.

Later Stokes was ruled out of the game and was replaced by Sam Curran, for whom it was his Test debut.

ECB said that the injury of the Durham star will be assessed later this week, and the extent of the injury would be known exactly and his absence from the Australia series can then be ascertained.

“Stokes will continue his rehabilitation programme and return to his county side Durham on Monday (June 4),” the ECB statement added.
