What Virat Kohli Did Not even Sachin Can do that- Warne

Legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne has said that Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are the two players of current generation who are the standout batsmen across all the formats of cricket.

Cricket news: He has achieved a great feat which even Sachin could not achieve, says Warne

Warne has also singled out Virat Kohli, the current skipper of Indian national team and Royal Challengers Bangalore, and told that he has achieved a great feat that even the legendary Sachin Tendulkar could not.

The legendary wrist spinner was speaking about the context of scoring centuries while successfully chasing down targets. Kohli has got 19 centuries, which are two more than that of Tendulkar.

Kohli is also second in the list of most number of centuries scored in the ODI format with 35 centuries, just behind Sachin Tendulkar’s 51.

“I think the way Virat plays and you look at his numbers and it’s uncanny how many times he has got hundreds in ODI cricket chasing totals down. I don’t think anyone, not even Sachin could do what Virat’s done,” Warne told to India Today on Monday.

In the interview, Warne also mentioned that Brian Lara and Tendulkar were the best players during his playing days. He also feels that only Kohli and AB de Villiers are among the current generation who can replace the two spots.

“We know Sachin and Brian Lara were the two best players of all time in our generation. But Virat and AB de Villiers; it’s very difficult to separate those guys. Virat is as good as anyone that I have seen play the game. Wonderful, terrific player, I love his energy and passion. I am sure when he finishes in ten years or so he will be spoken about in the same breath as Sachin,” he said.

Warne is currently the mentor of Rajasthan Royals in the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League. He believes that the 29-year-old Indian captain will score a bucketful of runs and will have a memorable tour when India visit England in July.

In the previous encounter between the two teams, Kohli had a horrible series and had scored just 134 runs with an average of 13.40 as India lost the four-match series 1-3.

“… [England is] perhaps the only place which Virat hasn’t yet nailed. And I think he will nail England this year. I think Virat will have an unbelievable series in England which will hold him in good stead in Australia also. He played beautifully in Australia in the last tour. His knock at Adelaide was nearly match winning. Jeez! He played well. I love to see Virat Kohli play,” Warne concluded.
