Dilshan Hints International Return after Sri Lanka’s Poor Show in Asia Cup

Former Sri Lankan opener and inventor of the famous ‘Dilscoop’, Tillakaratne Dilshan, has hinted at returning to international cricket after witnessing his country’s poor form in the ongoing 2018 Asia Cup.

Cricket news: Sri Lankan player Dilshan had announced his retirement from international cricket back in 2016

The 42-year-old player had announced his retirement from international cricket back in 2016 over some issues which were not entirely clear.

Despite the return of their strike bowler Lasith Malinga, Sri Lanka have suffered and has already been knocked out of the Asia Cup following the defeats against Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Reporter and producer at the BBC, Azzam Ameen, said in a tweet that former Sri Lankan player Tillakaratne Dilshan is tempted to make a comeback for his country.

“Former Sri Lankan Cricketer TM Dilshan (42) has hinted he could return to International Cricket since the national team is struggling. He told Lak FM radio that he wanted to play until 2019 World-cup but due to certain issues he had to retire earlier,” he wrote.

Dilshan’s final game for his country was a T20 international against Australia, where he scored just 1 run and his team ended up on the losing side after managing to post just 128 in the first innings.

Presently Dilshan featured in the St. Moritz Ice Cricket Tournament in Switzerland, which also saw many former great players like Jacques Kallis, Mike Hussey, Mahela Jayawardene and Graeme Smith. Dilshan also played for team City Kaitak in the Hong Kong Twenty20 Blitz in 2017.

Sri Lanka bundled out for a mere 124 while chasing Bangladesh’s total of 261 in their first game of the Asia Cup.

Needing a must-win against Afghanistan, they again faltered as Angelo Mathews’ boys got out for 158 while chasing a score of 249.

Bangladesh and Afghanistan qualified for the Super 4 from Group B while India and Pakistan when ahead in the tournament from Group A.
