Schedule of Super Four Stage of Asia Cup Confirmed

The format of this year’s Asia Cup has been tweaked a little bit with the initial group stage encounters to end on Thursday following the match between Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Cricket news: With recent success Afghanistan and Bangladesh will be eyeing to lift the trophy for the first time

After that phase the Super Four stage will kick-start, whose schedule was confirmed on Wednesday (19 September). Although there was a certain format, yet the Asian Cricket Council has interestingly announced the schedule even before the positions of the teams in the groups didn’t get confirmed.

It was previously decided that the Group A toppers will face the runners of Group B. But with still one match in hand, Bangladesh was handed the B2 position while Afghanistan was given the B1 position which has angered Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza.

“It is very disappointing,” Mashrafe. “Basically what has happened is that we were made the second team in Group B even before we played the last game,” said Mortaza as quoted in Cricbuzz.

All the four teams will play on 21 September with India taking on Bangladesh in Dubai while Pakistan will play against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi.

After a gap of one-day, arch-rivals India and Pakistan will play in Dubai while Bangladesh and Afghanistan will face each other in Abu Dhabi. The final two games of the Super Four stage will be played on 25 and 26 September.

With the recent performances of Bangladesh and Afghanistan, they will be eager to lift the trophy for the first time. But to do that they have to go past giants like India and Pakistan which seems unlikely to happen.
