5 Players Who Should Consider Retirement From IPL

Indian Premier League has been one of the best T20 franchise league which has featured many international legends who have made their impact.

Cricket news: These players have already lost their touch and should retire after this IPL season to give other youngsters a chance

Most of these international legends have already retired from the game, while some players are still trying to prove themselves that they have not yet finished.

However in this way they are tarnishing their own legacy, and should leave their spot from other youngsters who are trying to prove their potential.

Here is the list of 5 players who should immediately consider retirement right after this IPL season.

5. Yuvraj Singh

Once a golden boy of his generation and a nightmare for every bowler, Yuvraj is unable to perform to his full potential these days. He has a worse average of 12 and his strike rate is 91, which is well before his potential.

He, along with Mohamed Kaif, was once a sensation in the field as he could easily dive around and pull off some insane catches. But nowadays he is even fumbling to hold on to easy catches which are coming straight at him.

He is back with his home team Kings XI Punjab for the 2018 season, and might be released after the end, and should not consider going for the next auction. For a player who was once the highest buy in one season, it would be tragedy to see him go unsold.

4. Kieron Pollard

The West Indies all-rounder is undoubtedly one of the best T20 players and have single-handedly won many matches for his franchise Mumbai Indians.

In 2018 auction, Mumbai used the RTM card for him when Delhi Daredevils had made a bid for him for Rs. 5.4 crores. But the 31-year-old could not return they faith and Delhi will be happy not to have signed him.

His career was high 2 years back but now is on a steady decline. He can neither run around the field like he used to do before nor has Mumbai used him as a bowling option when they faced trouble.

3. Vinay Kumar

This player has been one of the best in domestic cricket but could not find his groove in IPL. Although he has been consistently inconsistent, he has somehow managed to find a buyer every single season.

Recently he was heavily trolled as he failed to defend 17 runs off the last over in a match against Chennai Super Kings, and as a result his team Kolkata Knight Riders were defeated.

It is time that he realises that IPL is not for him and should considering focussing more in the domestic sector where he can end his career on a high note.

2. Brendon McCullum

Many had thought that Chennai Super Kings were making a huge mistake when they did not use their RTM card for the New Zealand batsman, but later they found that the franchise had done the right thing.

McCullum was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore, but could not cement his position in the team and was dropped and replaced by Moeen Ali.

He has played 6 matches for RCB and has an average of just 21. Although he is known for hitting big sixes all around the park, yet he has hit just 6 sixes this season.

1. Gautam Gambhir

Having been the successful captain for Kolkata Knight Riders, and winning two IPL titles with them, he returned to his home team Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 auction.

But the homecoming soon turned into a nightmare as he could not perform well for the franchise and he himself stepped down from the role of the captain as Shreyas Iyer became the captain.

He was also dropped from the playing XI and Prithvi Shaw took his place in the top order. He should not prolong his IPL career and should focus on domestic cricket, as prolonging his IPL career might end on a bad note.
