Real Madrid’s Kovacic Might Go to Chelsea on Loan

Mateo Kovacic, the Croatian international, who is a fringe player in Real Madrid is trying to escape the club and is in talks over a potential loan move to Chelsea.

Reports suggest that the terms of the deal is not yet finalised but it is clear that Madrid is keen to loan the 24-year-old without a future option of buy, while Chelsea is trying to push a deal where they can buy the player in the future.

Maurizio Sarri, the new manager of Chelsea, is keen to add an extra midfielder and has voiced his desire to add a player with different “characteristics” to the current squad he has.

Previously Chelsea had attempted to close in on a deal with Alexsandr Golovin, but in the final hours the player chose AS Monaco for development reasons.

Reports also suggest that before the transfer window closes on Thursday, the Blues is also trying to offload a senior midfielder from the squad.

Meanwhile talks between the Premier League side and the La Liga side is going on over the future of Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who wishes to join Madrid for a deal of €35 million (£31m/$41m).

Courtois’ reason to move to Spain is totally personal as he wishes to remain closer to his two daughters in the Spanish capital. Courtois had spent three successful years on loan at Atletico Madrid previously.

On the other hand Chelsea is looking to replace Courtois’ position with the possible signing of Athletic Bilbao’s keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Bilbao had made it clear that they will not accept any deals for their goalie and as a result Chelsea would have to activate Kepa’s release clause of €80m (£71m/$92m), which will make him Chelsea’s record signing of all time as well as Kepa will become the most expensive goalkeeper of all time.

Chelsea is likely to go ahead with the deal as Courtois has not turned up for training in the first two days at Cobham, despite the fact that he was due on the training ground on Monday.

If Kepa’s signing is finalised, Willy Caballero will again become Chelsea’s second goalkeeper, after he started the game for the club in the 2-0 defeat in Community Shield final against Manchester City.
