According to the latest reports, La Liga, which is one of the best leagues in the football world, are set for legal battle with FIFA over vote to expand World Cup to 48 teams.

 

As the FIFA has voted to expand the World Cup to 48 teams from its current 32, brushing aside concerns that the expansion would lower the overall standard of the tournament, and make it too big and unwieldy.

The Soccer's governing body also stated on Twitter that the FIFA Council, its decision-making panel, had voted unanimously in favor of the change which will be introduced at the 2026 tournament.

And the new format will include a first round of 16 groups of three teams, FIFA said, with further details to be given later.

But the La Liga are set to open legal action against the FIFA after the World Cup was expanded to 48 teams.

As according to the Sky Sports, Spanish football bosses are livid with the decision and plan to fight it.
 

FIFA president Gianni Infantino was told that Europe's professional leagues had to be consulted before the vote was made, but that didn't happen, the La Liga chiefs said.

But the 46-year-old FIFA president, Gianni Infantino has to say that money was the real reason behind the tournament's expansion.

As in an interview with BBC, Infantino said,

"It is the opposite, it's a football decision," 
 

"Every format has advantages in financial terms. We were in a comfortable situation to take a decision based on sporting merit.”

"This is a historic decision which marks the entrance of the World Cup into the 21st Century."
