Prithvi Resumes Jogging; Could Play Boxing Day Test

India’s young sensation Prithvi Shaw received an ankle injury during India’s warm-up game. As a result he could not play the first Test and will not feature in the second Test too.

It seemed to be a huge blow for the Indian team, as everyone feared losing him for the entire series. But the good news is that the 19-year-old have resumed jogging and might soon make a comeback.

Prithvi made a sensational debut in Tests against the Windies on home ground in October. He currently averages over 100 in Tests, and can provide stability to the fragile Indian top-order.

Shaw received a nasty ligament injury while fielding during the warm-up game. Before that, in the first innings, he had scored a half century. This showed that he was carrying his good form in Down Under.

His sudden injury forced the management to change their plans. KL Rahul and Murali Vijay opened the innings for India. Although they failed in the first innings, they came back strong in the second and put up a 50-run stand. That partnership strengthened India’s position in the game.

Prithvi is seen jogging with protection

Last week at the Adelaide Oval, Shaw was spotted with his ankle heavily strapped. However on Monday, he was spotted on the sidelines, jogging with a protective brace on his ankle.

With things progressing, Shaw might make a return for the Boxing Day Test. The third Test of the series will be played in Melbourne and will start from December 26, the Boxing Day.

“With youth on his side there might just be a case where he might recover quicker. We’ll make a call as and when we get closer to Perth,” Times of India cited reports as quoting India head coach Ravi Shastri. The second Test of the series will start at Perth Stadium on December 14.

Earlier Shaw was set to open the innings with either Rahul or Vijay. His injury forced Rahul and Vijay to open and Rohit Sharma came in No. 6.

However none of the three batsmen could manage a half-century in the entire Adelaide Test. While Rahul scored 2 and 44, Vijay made 11 and 18 while Rohit managed 37 and 1.
