Chelsea Boss Feels Kepa Is Not At the Same Level as Courtois

Chelsea may have acquired the services of the goalkeeper who is currently the expensive goalkeeper in history, but their manager believes he is too far from being a finished article.

Football news: Chelsea recently signed Kepa Arrizabalaga for a record £72m from Athletic Bilbao

The Blues boss Maurizio Sarri had said to the fans that they should not expect Kepa Arrizabalaga to be at the same level as Thibaut Courtois.

Kepa was bought from Athletic Bilbao for a world-record fee of £71.6 million ($91m) as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois, who joined Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising keepers of world football and he has signed a seven-year contract at the Stamford Bridge.

However the Chelsea boss has lowered the expectations for the new signing and has said that he need to improve a lot before reaching the same level as Courtois.

When he was asked if his new keeper is as good as his former keeper, he replied, “Not at the moment.”

"Not at the moment for sure, but he is very young, 23 I think.

"So I hope he can improve very fast. But for the moment he is not Courtois, of course.

"We lost one of the most important goalkeepers in the world but we bought a good, young keeper, I think one of the most important among young goalkeepers in Europe, so I'm really happy."

Chelsea has also signed Mateo Kovacic for loan this season from Real Madrid and Sarri believes that the Croatian player can provide an extra dimension for the team.

"I think he has the characteristics for us," he said. "Kovacic is a very technical player.

"He is able to play between the lines of the opponent, for us that could be very important."
