MS Dhoni to Play for Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy

Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is currently on a resting spree after playing in the Asia Cup which India won for the seventh time in the tournament’s history.

Cricket news: The knockout phase of the tournament will start from October 14

The 37-year-old veteran cricketer is currently gearing himself to take part in the ODI and T20I series against the Windies after the conclusion of the two-match Test series.

The ODI series between the Windies and the Men in Blue will begin from October 21 at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati.

During the meantime the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman has decided to play domestic cricket for his state Jharkhand in the knockout stages of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. These reports have been confirmed by MSK Prasad, the chairman of selectors in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Thursday during an interview with Sportstar.

Jharkhand were the Elite Group C toppers with seven victories from nine matches. The other team to qualify from the group is Haryana. The knockout phases will commence from October 14, Sunday.

Dhoni last played for Jharkhand in the same tournament back in 2017 when he captained the side in the semi-final against Bengal in New Delhi.

Dhoni scored 70 from 62 deliveries which included a couple of boundaries and four sixes. However centuries from Bengal’s Shreevats Goswami and Abhimanyu Easwaran helped Bengal win the match by 41 runs.

Currently Dhoni is not in a good form in international cricket and hence wants to score big in domestic cricket and find his rhythm back before the Windies series.

Rohit Sharma, who captained the Indian side in the Asia Cup in UAE, is also not part of the Test team and hence is available to play for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
