3 Players Kolkata Knight Riders Should Buy In the IPL 2019 Auction

After having a pretty decent 2018 season, two-times IPL champion Kolkata Knight Riders decided to release eight of their players and retained the other 13.

Last season they made Dinesh Karthik, the wicketkeeper-batsman, as their captain. Karthik did not disappoint both with the bat and as a skipper. The lack of support from the middle-order and lack of good pacers costed them their chance for the third title.

The co-owner of the franchise, the Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, would want to get things done in the coming auction and win the event next year.

They have 12 free slots where they can buy seven Indian and five overseas players. They have remaining salary cap of 15.20 crore for the auction which will be held on 18 December.

Looking at their list of retained players, it is very evident that they need a good overseas pace bowler and a few experienced batsman to perform well in IPL 2019.

Here is the list of three players whom KKR should pick in the upcoming auction:

1. Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir was the former skipper of KKR and had led the team successfully for seven years, winning the trophy twice. He was released last season but might make a comeback this season.

Gambhir had a scintillating Vijay Hazare Trophy season, where he opened for Delhi and scored more than 500 runs.

However he did not have a good 2018 IPL season, where he stepped down from the mantle as his team Delhi Daredevils performed poorly in the tournament. Later he even had to remain benched from the midway of the tournament.

Although the southpaw is in his late 30s, he could still be a good pick as he been the part of the team earlier. Moreover the top-order batsman can be very handy with his batting skills and tactics.
