Sam Curran Shares His Experience on Bowling to Kohli

England’s left arm pace bowler might have a dream start in Test against India but he soon learnt a vital innings when he saw Virat Kohli’s heroic knock on the other end.

Cricket news: Kohli single-handedly bailed out his team in the first innings by scoring 149

The English pacer, who is the son of former Zimbabwe cricketer Kevin Curran, is playing his second international Test after he made his debut against Pakistan in June.

Although inexperienced, he managed to push India to the back foot by claiming the wickets of Murali Vijay, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan in quick succession.

But later in the day he learnt his lesson that Test cricket is tough as he was taken for runs as the opposition captain Kohli smashed him.

Although Kohli wasn’t authoritative right from the beginning and was dropped a couple of times, but he managed to make full use of the chances and scored his first century on English soil, completing his innings on 149 off 225 balls.

Curran has later revealed that Kohli’s attitude to take the fight to the English camp after the initial hiccup was worth a lesson to be learnt.

“We had them 100 for five, and felt in the game then Virat played really well with their tail and frustrated us a little bit,” he was quoted as saying by India Today after the end of second day’s play.

“I’m only in my second game, but I think it was a little eye-opener for watching the way he bats and how precise you’ve got to be with your lengths,” added the young bowler.

Curran was the most successful English bowler as he took 4 wickets for 74 as India’s innings finished on 274 in reply to England’s score of 287, giving the hosts a lead of 13 runs.

Curran also added that luck has favoured for Kohli as things would surely have been totally different had Dawid Malan not dropped him on 21.

“He did nick a lot of balls outside off-stump that didn’t carry as well. We stuck to our plans very well against him, and on another day they would carry,” he concluded.
