Kohli Wants BCCI to Allow Players’ Better Halves to Stay For Full Overseas Tour

The captain of the Indian cricket team Virat Kohli has requested the cricketing board to change an existing rule regarding the staying of the players’ wives on overseas tour.

Cricket news: According to present rules, the players’ wives are only allowed to stay on tour for 2 weeks

Kohli has requested the board to allow the wives of the players to travel with the team for the entire duration of the tour. Before the England tour BCCI had restricted the stay of wives of the players and support staff for only two weeks.

This issue has been in heavy debate over several years and as per the current policy, wives and support staff are allowed for only two weeks regardless the duration of the tour.

Kohli had personally approached a top official of BCCI and has addressed the issue to him, who has told Kohli that the matter will be taken up by the Committee of Administrators (CoA).

According to some reports by The Indian Express, the team manager of India, Sunil Subramaniam, has been asked to submit a formal request for a change in the rule by the CoA.

However the matter will not be solved soon as the CoA will postpone the decision because if the rule is changed then the BCCI will have to alter its stance.

“The request was made a few weeks back but as it is a BCCI policy decision, the manager will have to submit a formal request first. Anushka has been travelling with Kohli overseas, however, Kohli now wants the old rule to be abolished and a new policy should come up where wives should be allowed to travel with the Indian team,” a source was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.

During the England tour, there was an event hosted for the Indian Cricket Team at the UK High Commission. Anushka Sharma, wife of Virat Kohli, was spotted in that event and was also seen in the team photograph which went viral.

This enraged the fans which slammed the board for allowing only Kohli’s wife while there were no family members of other players present in the picture. Later an official of BCCI clarified that all the players were invited with their better halves and it was up to the decision of the individual player to accompany their family or not.

“This is the norm wherever the team travels. The High Commission invites the players with their relatives and it is eventually the decision of the individuals. Even in London, the players were invited along with their partners. There has been no breach of any protocol,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying to Hindustan Times.
